Pupils at a secondary school in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, were described by family as being left upset when kept inside and unable to call parents.

Armed police from Sussex Police descended on the coastal town today after reports that a man was seen with a gun.

Schools near where the gunman was allegedly sighted, on Froth Road, were placed into lockdown for almost two hours as a precaution.

Police cars and dogs have been searching the area, but they have since reopened. No suspect is said to have been detained.
