The Scottish Parliament has passed land reforms which could force the break-up of some large estates.
The bill is designed to help reduce the concentration of rural land ownership among a small number of people, and to give communities a greater say in what happens on privately owned land.

One of the two prisoners mistakenly freed from HMP Wandsworth has handed himself in.
William "Billy" Smith, 35, was wrongly released from HMP Wandsworth earlier this week.
But he has now handed himself in after a three-day manhunt.
Smith was sentenced to 45 months for multiple fraud offences at Croydon Crown Court on Monday, but mistakenly released later the same day.
His release came about because of a court error, telling the prison his custodial sentence was a suspended one instead.

Spain's exiled king Juan Carlos I has revealed for the first time how he shot and killed his younger brother when they were teenagers.
The former royal, who now lives in Dubai, published his 500-page memoirs this week, in which he wrote about the death of Alfonso nearly 70 years ago.
Juan Carlos, then aged 18, and Alfonso, aged 14, had been apparently playing with a Star Bonifacio Echeverria automatic pistol, owned by the younger brother.

Poland launches new military training programme, aims to train 400,000 in 2026
Dubbed by Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz as "the largest defence training in Polish history", the programme "At Readiness" will be voluntary and open to all citizens - from schoolchildren to working adults, companies, and seniors.
The programme will offer a basic security course, survival training, medical instruction, and cyber-hygiene classes.
"In November and December alone (...) we will train about 20,000 people in individual training, but the total number..., in terms of all forms of training, is about 100,000 people," Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk told a conference.

Police are to reopen a case in which a taxi passenger’s face was slashed by a knife-wielding stranger - after witnesses said they were convinced the attacker was the same man held for the Huntingdon train rampage.
Ricky Butcher needed 15 stitches to a slash wound to his face after being attacked at random in September by a man he now believes could have been accused train attacker Anthony Williams.

A council is considering putting a cap on the number of visits to its household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) - after one customer booked nearly 250 in the space of a year.
The situation was highlighted in a report to Dumfries and Galloway Council's economy and infrastructure committee., external
The visits were carried out between April 2024 and May this year - mainly at facilities in Annan and Lockerbie.
The report concluded it suggested "potential misuse of our facilities by commercial operators" and that imposing some kind of limit on visits would now be considered as part of a wider review of the service.

A council has won a High Court battle to vaccinate a baby against her mother's wishes.
Islington Council faced a legal challenge by one of its residents after it arranged for her eight-month-old daughter to receive routine vaccinations while the child was in its care.
The mother, known only as Ms S, had refused the vaccinations out of her belief there was a link between the jabs and autism – a claim science does not support.
At the High Court, Mr Justice McDonald decided that not vaccinating the girl would leave her at risk of childhood disease "at a very young age when she remains vulnerable," and ruled in favour of the local authority.
