The Scottish Conservatives have pledged to vote against any plans by the SNP Government to impose "staggering" fines on householders who don't comply with future energy regulations.

It was revealed this week that the draft Buildings and Heat Networks Bill contains plans that would impose penalties of up to £15,000 on home or building owners who do not comply with new laws, such as replacing ageing gas or oil boilers in their properties.

Documents published alongside the new draft Bill set out the "sanctions" for failing to comply, adding: "Those sanctions may involve the enforcement authority imposing a civil penalty up to a maximum of £15,000."

It comes after Housing Secretary Mairi McAllan announced that the final Bill will not be published until after next year's Holyrood elections, which she blamed on delays to the UK Government's warm homes plan.

Scores of children to get puberty blockers on NHS in UK from 2026
The first patients are expected to be available for recruitment in the new year, with researchers hopeful that more than 200 children could eventually join the study.

Dozens of children in the UK will be administered puberty blockers on the NHS in the UK from early 2026. A clinical trial examining the effects of these drugs is set to commence, with recruitment for the first patients expected to begin in the new year - although it will not be available in Scotland.

King's College London researchers are optimistic that over 200 children could participate in the study, with results anticipated in approximately four years. Some participants may continue taking the medication beyond the trial if it is deemed "clinically appropriate".

The government is set to extend the Electric Car Grant scheme by a year as it announced another £1.5bn towards supporting the UK's transition to electric vehicles.

More than 35,000 drivers have been helped in switching to an electric vehicle (EV) since the scheme was launched in July, as their upfront costs were cut by up to £3,750.
