Water, one of the world’s most abundant and highly demanded resources for sustaining life, agriculture, and industry, is being contaminated globally or is unsafe for drinking, creating a need for new and better desalination methods. Current desalination methods have high financial, energy, construction, and operating costs, resulting in them contributing to less than 1% of the world’s reserve water supplies. Advances in nanoscale science and engineering suggest that more cost effective and environmentally friendly desalination process using graphene is possible. MD simulation studies show that nanoporous graphene membranes are able to reject salt ions while letting water flow at permeabilities several orders of magnitude higher than existing RO membranes.

در این پست قصد داریم یکی از مواد پرکاربرد در مهندسی را معرفی کنیم که نام آن "گرافن" است که در پست قبلی یکی از کاربردهای آن مورد بررسی قرار گرفت. گرافن یک لایه از گرافیت، ماده ای به ضخامت یک اتم است که از شبکه ی شش وجهی اتم های کربن تشکیل شده است. اخیرا نیز ماده ای شگفت انگیز به آن اطلاق می شود. گرافن به علت خواص منحصر به فرد، توجه زیادی به خود جلب کرده است. گرافن نازک ترین و سبک ترین ماده ی شناخته شده است....برخی از کاربردهای گرافن به شرح زیر است: 1-کاربردهای الکترونیکی 2-دارورسانی

“Elastic Cloaking” – New Flexible Material Designed to Protect Buildings. Even though they are miles from the epicenter of an earthquake, buildings can collapse due to how an earthquake’s energy makes the ground shake and rattle. Now, a team of engineers led by Guoliang Huang, a James C. Dowell Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Missouri College of Engineering, has designed a flexible material that can help buildings withstand multiple waves of energy traveling through a solid material, including the simultaneous forward and backward and side-to-side motions found in earthquakes. “Our elastic material can stretch and form to a particular surface, similarly to a wrap on a vehicle,” Huang said. “It can be applied to the surface of an existing building to allow it to flex in an earthquake. What is unique about the structured lattice-type material is that it protects against both types of energy waves — longitudinal and sheer — that can travel through the ground.
