Almagro demands the immediate and unconditional release of González Urrutia's son-in-law

"His illegal arrest is the responsibility of the Venezuelan regime and constitutes a new and unacceptable act of political pressure towards the person who the Carter Center and the international community certified as the winner of the July elections, something that the regime continues to fail to refute with evidence," said the OAS Secretary General.

Spanish government will not send representatives to Maduro's inauguration

According to the newspaper El Mundo, the decision was announced by sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, which underlines Spain's critical position regarding the recent presidential elections in the South American country.

Spain never recognised Maduro's victory in the elections of 28 July, considering them to be lacking in transparency.

Despite pressure from the Spanish Congress and Senate to recognise González as president-elect, President Pedro Sánchez opted to maintain a neutral stance, aligning himself with the common European position of not recognising Maduro's legitimacy.

Speaking to local media, Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha reiterated that he should not be asked what the surprise was about, “because if not, it wouldn't happen.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the great importance that Venezuela has in the democratic history of the country, recalling the efforts of President Carlos Andrés Pérez in helping the Panamanian people restore their sovereignty and control of the Panama Canal.

“We have to be grateful to a people who have helped Panama so much,” said Martínez-Acha.

Chavista Government announces constitutional reform for 2025: Maduro will sign decree after his swearing-in at the National Assembly

President Nicolás Maduro announced that he will sign a decree on January 10, after his inauguration, to begin a “transformation of the national development model.”

The initiative coincides with a period that the government describes as one of “economic stability,” reporting—according to its figures—14 consecutive quarters of growth.

Maduro announced that his first executive action after being sworn in will be the signing of a decree to establish a national and international commission to promote constitutional reform.

The reform, which will be developed in the National Assembly, seeks to "clearly define the Venezuelan development model" by 2031 and "democratize political and social life," he explained.
