Authorities report more than 80 dead due to conflict between ELN and FARC in Catatumbo

Clashes between the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrillas and a dissident group of the FARC in the Colombian region of Catatumbo (northeast) have caused more than 80 deaths, more than 20 wounded and thousands of displaced people, reported this Sunday the governor of the department of Norte de Santander, William Villamizar.

"Today we have a very sad result, more than 80 people killed, more than 20 injured, people who had to be airlifted out of the region to save their lives," said the governor in Cúcuta, the capital of the department.

The Army has been involved in these tasks, and on Sunday it reported that "in the midst of confrontations between the ELN and the FARC dissidents," through an air assault operation, soldiers "managed to enter a confined area" in the hamlet of La Gabarra (Tibú) and rescue "a social leader and a family member who were being pursued by members of the ELN."

Maduro says Venezuela is in better condition to face sanctions

Nicolás Maduro said on Sunday that the country is currently in better conditions to face "sanctions and aggressions."

Maduro said that the country currently has more capacity to continue moving forward, "building and recovering stability, the economy and society," EFE reported.

The president published this message after sources from the incoming president in the United States, Donald Trump, indicated that his team is shaping a plan to force the end of more than two decades of Chavismo in Venezuela, starting with the possible termination of the license to the American oil company Chevron, which would affect the delicate cohesion of the government, as well as a negotiated exit of Nicolás Maduro into exile.
Edmundo González met with the president of Paraguay

Edmundo González reported that this Sunday morning he held a meeting in Washington, United States, with the President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña.

"This morning in Washington I had a meeting with the president of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, to talk about bilateral issues and about the commitment of the Paraguayan government to work together for democratic freedom in Venezuela," González said on his X account.

Following the meeting, the Paraguayan president said: "I reaffirm my full support for Edmundo and the brave Venezuelan people, who today are determinedly fighting for their freedom and the restoration of democracy."
