🛶 Human smugglers deceive migrants on San Andrés Island with a "VIP route"
The Colombian Attorney General's Office warned that human traffickers are offering "VIP routes" for migrants through the island of San Andrés, which has caused an increase in cases of vessel interception and shipwreck rescue.
Migrants travel by plane from Cali, Medellín, Cartagena and Bogotá to the San Andrés airport, the Attorney General's Office said in a press release, and are then guided by these smugglers along a route over the open sea. They transfer at the Albuquerque and Pescador keys, to the south of the archipelago, to reach Nicaragua and from there continue north.
From June 2022 to the present, the Colombian Navy has rescued 804 migrants from China, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic. In the first quarter of 2023 alone, 93 migrants have been rescued.

US Congressman Díaz-Balart, in an interview for NTN24, disagreed with the proposal to lift the economic sanctions against Venezuela.
"Relaxing the sanctions without conditions would mean a betrayal of the brave Venezuelan people who have been fighting and working for their freedom, and what they ask for is freedom," he said.
"It would be very negative for the security of the United States and the democracies in this hemisphere (...) It would be a betrayal of historic proportions, something that I am not willing to accept," he said.
His response comes after the US president, Joe Biden, received his Colombian counterpart Gustavo Petro at the White House, who expressed his desire that the sanctions against the government of Nicolás Maduro be lifted.

president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, in conversation with the magazine Semana de Colombia, acknowledged that there is a military alliance with the Government of Nicolás Maduro to intensify against the ELN guerrilla, with which he is conducting peace talks, but which has had contrary gestures in the country.
“The ELN did not accept the ceasefire that was agreed upon in December. To that extent, what there is is a military confrontation that now has a new ingredient: the Military Forces in Venezuela are acting in alliance with the Colombian Government, with its Army, taking away a space that the ELN previously had freely,” he reported.

Some 25 tents were intentionally burned. They were migrants in a new camp that was recently set up on this border.
Mostly Haitians, Venezuelans and other South Americans, the migrants took a chance while they resolve their immigration status before the United States.
However, the houses made of plastic and wood were doused with gasoline to set them on fire.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the migrants managed to flee, losing their clothes and the few belongings they had in the tents
