Thus it would seem that the Academy was trying to obscure the startling toll of you-know-what in Hollywood last year—just as they did in 2024, 2023 and 2022. Throughout those years we’ve seen the same thing happen at the Emmys and the Grammys, so that it’s now become a (seeming) normal thing for those shows to be followed by complaints all over “social media” by viewers aggrieved that certain of their favorite stars were “snubbed,” and “news” outlets reporting those complaints.

Prior to 2022, there were no such complaints, because there were few gaps, if any, in those glittering necrologies. (Even in 2021, just after the Year of COVID, when “millions died” of “the coronavirus,” those segments seemed complete enough.) What we’re seeing now, in all these too-selective “fond farewells,” is further evidence of the continuing effort, surely driven from on high, to make it harder for the masses to see clearly the horrific abnormality of all those deaths—all too many of them premature, and most of them occurring, evidently, for no reason.—
