China influenced American policies for decades through a covert network of “old friends” — sympathizers and agents — who had penetrated the highest levels of the U.S. government and financial institutions before the Trump administration, according to an academic linked to the Chinese government.

John Ratcliffe, Director of National Intelligence wrote an article in the WSJ. From the article:
'The intelligence is clear: Beijing intends to dominate the U.S. and the rest of the planet economically, militarily and technologically. Many of China’s major public initiatives and prominent companies offer only a layer of camouflage to the activities of the Chinese Communist Party.
I call its approach of economic espionage “rob, replicate and replace.” China robs U.S. companies of their intellectual property, replicates the technology, and then replaces the U.S. firms in the global marketplace.'

On the morning of July 12, Li Qiangmin, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Houston, who is about to be transferred back to Atlanta, met with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.
"On behalf of the state government, Governor Brian Kemp expressed his gratitude to Consul General Li Qiangmin for his contributions to the promotion of commerce and tourism in China and Georgia for more than 5 years. Consul General Li emphasized the importance of the development of friendly relations between China and the United States and welcomed Governor Brian Kemp to visit China as soon as possible."
