NY governor calls for bans on UK flights amid surge in virus variant in London, southern England

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) said Sunday that flights from the U.K. should be banned in response to the emergence of a more infectious coronavirus strain in London and southern England.

In a statement Sunday, the governor blasted the Trump administration for not implementing such a shutdown, saying it failed to learn from the initial of the virus in the spring.

"The United States has a number of flights coming in from the UK each day and we have done absolutely nothing. To me, this is reprehensible because this is what happened in the spring," Cuomo said in a statement Sunday.

 To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.’

 Your family is waiting and I’ll be all right.’
 ‘But isn’t there something I can do, at the least,
 ‘Give you money,’ I asked, ‘or prepare you a feast?
 It seems all too little for all that you’ve done, 
 For being away from your wife and your son.’ 
 Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
 ‘Just tell us you love us, and never forget. 
 To fight for our rights back at home while we’re gone,
 To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
