The vice president’s role in a contested presidential election is both symbolic and ministerial. Under Article II, the Twelfth, and the 20th Amendments, the states elect the president. The vice president’s obligation as president of the Senate is, therefore, to “preserve, protect and defend” the collective power and exclusive authority of the States to elect the president. As president of the Senate, the vice president represents “the United States” and is equally obligated to represent the interests of both the disputed and undisputed states. (More)

DC Cops Tell Descending MAGA Hordes: Guns Banned From Jan. 6 Pro-Trump Protest

President Donald Trump previously promised that this week’s MAGA protest in Washington, D.C. will be both “big” and “wild.” Perhaps for that exact reason, city police have told protesters that they can’t bring their guns along. The protest is set for Wednesday, Jan. 6—the day Congress will meet to certify Trump’s election defeat once and for all—and Trump supporters are expected to voice their (quote) “repeatedly disproven theory that the vote was rigged” (propaganda). FOX 5 reports that notices have gone up throughout the capital telling people that firearms are banned until this Thursday.

We’re forecasting tight margins on the #electricity system later this week (Wed-Fri) owing to a combination of weather-related factors (inc renewable generation levels and below seasonal avg temperatures) and generator availability over periods of the day with higher demand. This combination of factors means the forecast cushion of spare capacity we operate the system with has been reduced. We’re exploring measures and actions to make sure there’s enough generation available to increase our buffer of capacity. A portion of the latest stimulus bill, allows “mixed-status” households to receive stimulus checks. A "mixed-status" household is a family that includes at least one spouse that is a citizen or green card holder with a social security number, and another that is undocumented.

A bright daylight fireball was recorded above Bahia, Brazil at 18:59 UTC on January 2, 2021 (15:59 LT). The event reportedly scared some of the residents of central Bahia. The bolide was also recorded by NOAA/GOES-16 satellite.

🔻 President Donald Trump has filed two lawsuits - federal and state - against GA Secretary of State. The telephone conference call Raffensperger secretly recorded was a “confidential settlement discussion” of that litigation, which is still pending. The audio published by The Washington Post is heavily edited and omits the stipulation that all discussions were for the purpose of settling litigation and confidential under federal and state law.
