Two House Democrats ask Wray to open 'immediate criminal investigation' into Trump

Reps. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) and Kathleen Rice (D-N.Y.) called on FBI Director Christopher Wray to open a criminal probe into President Trump after the release of a recording of his Saturday call demanding Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) "find" additional votes for him.

"As members of Congress and former prosecutors, we believe Donald Trump engaged in solicitation of, or conspiracy to commit, a number of election crimes," Lieu and Rice wrote in a letter Monday. "We ask you to open an immediate criminal investigation into the president."

"The evidence of election fraud by Mr. Trump is now in broad daylight. The prima facie elements of the above crimes have been met," Lieu and Rice wrote. "Given the more than ample factual predicate, we are making a criminal referral to you to open an investigation into Mr. Trump.

Xi Orders China’s Military to Focus on ‘Preparing for War’ as Party Approaches 100th Anniversary

In the first order of the year, Xi instructed the forces to ratchet up military training. As chairman of the regime’s Central Military Commission (CMC), Xi is head of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the CCP’s armed forces.

He ordered the PLA to “focus on preparing for war, deepen the transformation of military training, build a new type of military training system, and comprehensively improve the level of combat training and ability to win,” according to Chinese state media Xinhua.

The order follows the CCP’s escalation of military confrontations in several areas last year, including on the India-China border, the Taiwan Strait, and the S. China Sea.

Xi also emphasized the role of technology in military training and combat, describing science and technology as a “core idea in combat effectiveness.”

Groundbreaking Experiment Tracks the Real-Time Transport of Individual Molecules

Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences, or CNMS, contributed to a groundbreaking experiment published in Science that tracks the real-time transport of individual molecules.

A team used unique four-probe scanning tunneling microscopy to move a single molecule between two independent probes and observe it disappear from one point and instantaneously reappear at the other.

The STM operates under an applied voltage, scanning material surfaces with a sharp probe that can move atoms and molecules by nudging them a few nanometers at a time. This instrument made it possible to send and receive dibromoterfluorene molecules 150 nanometers across a silver surface with unprecedented control. “The project showcases precision instrument capabilities at the atomic level that open new frontiers in controllable molecules, or molecular machinery.
