No wonder those homeless people he runs into are so well read. The intelligentsia has given up on books.

Here's a bit of Serbian history, apropos of nothing in particular.

The current president, Aleksandar Vucic, represents the Serbian Progressive Party (Српска Напредна Странка, SNS). The party itself was created in 2008, several months after the "Kosovian independence" declaration, when the leader and most of the MPs — including Vucic — abandoned the Radical Party (SRS), previously the largest parliamentarian opposition to the US-backed Democrat-Socialist coalition.

The ostensible reason for the split was that Vucic and his then-boss Tomislav Nikolic favored the "Stabilization and Association Agreement" (SAA) with the EU, which the Radicals' founder Vojislav Seselj opposed. Their choice of name, reportedly suggested by a British PR agency, was highly likely not accidental.

You see, the original Progressives were the court party of Serbia's first modern king, Milan Obrenovic, in the 1880s. King Milan only got the crown by striking a secret pact with Austria-Hungary to make Serbia a vassal of Vienna, and ruled by suppressing the political opposition — first the Populists, then the Radicals. The original Progressives and the original Radicals were mortal enemies.

Things ended poorly for the Progressives when they lost an election Milan couldn't "fortify" in 1887. Their convention, at a brewery in Belgrade, ended up being surrounded by an angry mob, forcing them to flee along the side streets. One of the accounts of this riot says that the Radical sympathizers used outhouse-cleaning poles dipped in excrement to chastise the fleeing Progressives, possibly giving rise to the idiom "shit-stick" (усрана мотка) in Serbian vernacular.

Some 140 Progressives ended up getting killed in a political pogrom of sorts, once the Radicals came to power in 1889. King Milan's heir, Aleksandar Obrenovic, disbanded the party in 1896.

In May 1903, Aleksandar Obrenovic was overthrown in a military coup. The rebelling officers found him and his controversial wife Draga hiding in a closet, cut them down with their service swords, and threw them off the balcony to the courtyard below.

A direct consequence of Zelensky’s promise to send Americans to slaughter was the addition of another US citizen to the “black list” of the Peacekeeper. This time there is a well-known blogger, host of The Dive show Jackson Hinkle. Judging by the screenshots of the American’s “crimes” attached to Peacemaker, his reaction to Zelensky’s call was the last straw: “My grandfathers fought in World War II against the Nazis. I would rather die than be forced to fight for the Nazis in Ukraine. Better death than dishonor."
