Story time....

My grandparents lived pretty far out in the boonies... they could have gotten a phone by 1985 but never did. My grandfather came to our house one night after dark to use the phone. He called the operator for a phone number inquiry. He had seen a piece of farm equipment in a small town about 45 minutes north of us and wanted to talk to the farmer about it. So as if he was talking to Sarah the operator in Mayberry, he said he needed the number to that farm that is at the split in the road just past where lightning struck that big oak tree last year. She said she needed a name to get him a phone number. He said he didn't know the name, why didn't she know where that tree was? She said she was in the state capital .... he got angry and said "well no damn wonder you don't know" and hung up on her.
