1/3 - A thread on woman imprisoned under SNA-militias
The Syrian Women’s Council today issued declaration for Syria's future. One of their objectives is:
📌“The immediate release of all women still held captive in the prisons of armed groups".
As prisons in most of Syria are being opened, those in the areas under occupation by Turkish proxy forces - such as Afrin, Azas, Jarabulus, al-Bab, Serekaniye, Gire Spi - remain closed.
Woman, especially Kurdish women, continue to be forcefully abducted by Turkish militias and disappeared into these prisons from which reports have emerged that torture and sexual violence including rape is common in these prisons.

2/3 - Women imprisoned under SNA-militias
Only last week it was reported that militias in Manbij abducted Kurdish Red Crescent worker Melek Qasim.
She has been, like many others, "accused of working with the AANES”. Sometimes, families are blackmailed into paying 2.000-10.000 US$ for their release, which then does not happen.
As the militias work under impunity, the number of detainees is unclear, as is their fate. This is a report from a woman who was in Hawar Kilis prison in Azaz and later in Afrin prison: “L.A” faced relentless sexual torture for two years but refrained from sharing explicit details, stating only, “The sexual torture continued throughout my imprisonment.” She described horrifying methods such as gathering male and female detainees in a single interrogation room, where women were humiliated in front of men to force confessions. On some occasions, rape occurred in that room."

3/3 - women imprisoned under SNA militias
The Suleiman Shah Divison and the Hamza Division have been implicated in running these prisons. They are part of the Turkish-backed SNA. In 2023 the U.S. decided to sanction these two militias for war crimes such as murder and rape.
Their leaders, Mohammad al-Jasim & Sayf Boulad Abu Bakr were posing some days ago with al-Jolani in Damascus as they are now part of the military arm of the official Syrian Interim Govt.
The women of NE Syria have sacrificed a lot to establish women's units in order to protect themselves exactly from men and militias such as these, not just ISIS. Women’s units such as #YPJ remain after all, the only true force to guarantee the women’s revolution and its achievement of women' s liberation and self-defense.

The Turkish state's war against free press
On December 19th, the two journalists Cihan Bilgin and Nazım Daşdan, who reported relentlessly on Turkish war crimes in North-East Syria as well as the revolution, were assassinated in a drone strike.
Now, another journalists, has been put under house arrest. Özlem Gürses has been accused of the crime of 'publicly spreading misleading information' as she states that "the ISIS structure, namely the Turkish Army and the SNA, has made small gains in the regions where the Kurds live". Persecuting free press is a normality in today's Turkey.

Jineoloji Institute shares their analysis of the current situation in Syria
The hostility of Turkey and its gangs against women reveals the two-line war in Syria. People’s leader Abdullah Ocalan, predicted for the 21st century: “Either Socialism or Barbarism”. We can interpret this as “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom) or “Men, State, Violence”.
Hegemonic forces have used the ongoing third world war, whose center is the Middle East, to put a new plan into action in Syria as of November 27. According to information from local sources, since the summer, the gangs that have been holding training camps in Idlib and Rehyanli, have put forth a new version of their training course: “train and equip” and then have been releasing their trainees into the field in Syria.
The events that are taking place in the last days of 2024 at a mind-boggling speed indicate how the year 2025 will pass. Of course, within this plan, every hegemonic power has a new plan of its own. Are the democratic forces in Syria and the Middle East capable of protecting their people, women, cultures, nature and the future against these plans however the situation plays out? We will answer this question in due time, but now let’s look at the aspirations of the hegemonic powers who try to conquer not only our land, but also our hearts and minds.

In 2007 Abdullah Öcalan published in Turkish the 5th part of his defense writings. Among others, he offers a deep and elaborate analysis of the political crises and ongoing wars in the Middle East.
In time of the recent escalation of conflicts in the region, an excerpt of his writings has now been published in English: "We cannot talk enough about the imposition of the nation state, which is carving up Middle Eastern culture as if with a knife. For the most incurable of the traumas suffered was triggered by this knife. (…) The wound continues to bleed. Let’s look at the everyday conflict between Hindus and Muslims in India, the slaughter in Kashmir, in the Uighur region of China, in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the bloody struggle of Chechens and others in Russia, the fighting in Israel/Palestine, Lebanon and all Arab countries, the conflicts of Kurds with Turks,...".

Respect to SDF spokesperson Farhad Shami, who made a statement today from Tishrin Dam. Shami speaks refutes the claims by Turkey that the dam was under militia control, explains the role of fake news and speaks about the importance of the battle there:
"Today is a day of dignity, a day of honour. Because this is not war against a dam, or against a village, this is a war against everything".
