Syrian President Bashar al-Assad believes that Russia's military presence should not be temporary and limited only to the fight against terrorism. RIA Novosti was the first media outlet to talk to Assad immediately after his talks in the Kremlin.

"As for the political aspect, the issue of military bases should not be linked to the issue of combating terrorism. The fight against terrorism is today's topic, but it is temporary. The Russian military presence in any country should not be based on anything temporary. We are talking about the international balance, and Russia's presence in Syria has a significance related to the balance of forces in the world as a country located on the Mediterranean Sea," Assad said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

In his opinion, the superpowers today cannot defend themselves or play a proper role on the world stage, limiting their presence only on their state territories.
