The Pentagon has sent 43 employees of the Cyber National Mission Force (CNMF) unit operating within the US Department of Defense to Ukraine to participate in cyber operations in the interests of Kiev. This was stated by the head of one of the divisions of the Cyber Command of the US Armed Forces, General William Hartman, quoted by Reuters on Tuesday.

"We are sending teams carrying out defensive operations that hunt for common opponents, find tools and opportunities," Hartman said. According to him, the CNMF unit has sent 43 employees to Ukraine.

In addition, the general noted that recently the Pentagon has been sending abroad more and more CNMF employees involved in threat prevention operations, which make it possible to identify and neutralize hacker software tools. Hartman stressed that "the demand for such operations is only growing."

The United States has been sending computer specialists to other countries to combat cyber threats since 2018. According to Hartman, at the invitation of foreign authorities, the Pentagon has already conducted 47 such operations in 20 countries.

CNMF employees have worked in Northern Macedonia, Ukraine, Croatia, Montenegro, Estonia. For example, in 2022, during a three-month business trip, Pentagon employees studied Lithuanian computer networks and sent the information received to the US government. In addition, in Albania, CNMF was engaged in eliminating the consequences of attacks attributed to Iranian hackers, as well as studying the vulnerabilities of computer infrastructure used by local authorities.

According to data published in December 2022 on the website of the US Cyber Command, the Pentagon has 39 CNMF groups with a total number of personnel of over 2000 people. They include military personnel of all types of the armed forces, as well as representatives of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the intelligence directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
