2019 March - Youtube offers creators with the option to buy awards

If you have already met the subscriber goal, you can buy additional subscriber plaques from youtube themselves. Its basically unheard of and many creators have not known it was an option, along with the fact youtube has never mentioned it either. Its also apparently rather hard to get the response, as they will usually say no.

2019 March - 2019 March - Context for Kurzgesagt–Coffee Break Trust situation

As almost all conversations about the issues that arose March 12 on this have now ended, I am going to try to collect everything as an objective set of facts so that users can be referenced to this post to understand the context of the issues between the two channels.

###Beginning Context

Coffee Break is a video essay channel run by Stephen

Johann Hari is a writer and journalist who has written books about addiction

Kurzgesagt is a German science animation channel run by Philipp Dettmer that employs 25 people and is funded in part by the German government

On March 3 2019 Kurzgesagt posted a video noscriptd "Can You Trust Kurzgesagt Videos?" in which they state they are taking down two videos on Addiction and the European Migrant Crisis for inaccuracy and bias.

###The Main Issues

Coffee Break posts a video on March 12 2019 noscriptd "Trust - In A Nutshell"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8nNPQssUH0

(At least, that is what it is now noscriptd. Various threads imply the noscript also included something like "Kurzgesagt Is Lying" or "Can You Trust Kurzgesagt? - In A Nutshell" but none seem to use the exact same noscript, so these may have been edits by the users posting the videos.)

The video makes two claims:

* Coffee Break contacted Kurzgesagt about inaccuracies in their Addiction video, requesting an interview for a video essay he was working on. Kurzgesagt stalled his progress by promising but delaying an interview, stated their video was [CB paraphrasing] "Good enough", and created a video of their own to address the topic before Coffee Break could release his video.

* Kurzgesagt did not accurately research Johann Hari's book on Addiction when they created the initial Addiction video, nor after releasing their Can You Trust Kurzgesagt video, continuing to misquote the claims Hari makes about the causes behind addiction.

Stephen (CB) states that he will not quote the email correspondence between himself and Philipp Dettmer as Philipp requested not to be quoted.

Stephen makes a point to request Philipp allow him to make the email records public.

###Coffee Break's View

Stephen from Coffee Break explains that he has been working on a three-part series on "Pop-Science" videos that explain complex topics in a simplified format for a wider audience to understand, and how simplification can lead to misinformation.

(I had written more of this, but the post was accidentally deleted. I am going to work on filling in the rest again but wanted to get what I had left over up in the meantime.)
