I was academically competitive. I have my success in academics. For this reason, I thought it would change my life for good. However, recently, I came to a realization that the direct correlation between academic success and wealth is no longer there. It is the story of the past. It doesn't apply any longer.
As a result, I decreased my effort for A and A+ in classes and doubled down on self-teaching myself. I found a more promising future in it than the traditional route.

Honestly, this statement makes him genius if his class marks didn't. He is questioning what all the society is agreed up on.
