This advice isn’t just for anyone else — it’s for me too:

You can read every self-help book, listen to all the podcasts, and spend hours on those “how to improve your life” videos — but without taking real action, it’s just theory. Knowing what to do means nothing if you don’t actually do it.

I’ll admit, I’m like that too, sometimes — distractions get in the way, and consistency slips. But I’m committed to changing that and putting what I learn into action.

Self-help without doing is just borrowed advice you share instead of using to change yourself. So stop chasing quantity — consuming more content won’t help unless you apply it.

Focus on quality:
⦁ Choose a few meaningful habits
⦁ Stick to them consistently
⦁ Reflect on your progress

That’s where real growth begins — when knowledge turns into small, steady actions that change your life. Be patient, stay focused, and make what you learn truly yours.

From PowerPoint to Programming: Reflections on My First Year Coding (2017 E.C.) 😁

As 2017 E.C. wraps up and we enter Pagumen — the Ethiopian calendar’s special time for reflection and resetting — I wanted to take a moment to look back at my very first year of learning programming.

I started with zero knowledge, no PC even, and honestly my only “computer skill” was making PowerPoint slides 😁. Imagine that! But driven by curiosity and a hunger to change my path, I jumped in headfirst. I picked one programming language and dived deep into Django for about six months, building a blog, a social media app, and even a loan tracker API.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing. I exploring Data Structures & Algorithms and planned to practice on LeetCode, but haven’t gotten to the questions yet (baby steps!). I started lots of projects that didn’t reach the finish line but fueled my learning and creativity. I’m also dreaming big with ideas for solving real problems — some still just concepts, while a few AI products are still in progress.

One of the highlights? I participated in a team that got 2nd place at the AASTU Tech Fest 2025 hackathon!

Reflecting on my journey so far, I realize that every failure, every unfinished task, was just part of the process. The biggest step is believing that change is possible and showing up to do the work.

But here’s the thing: I write the path in short, but I’ve lived it the long way 😅 — distraction, insecurity, struggling to stick to one thing, fear of failure, bad habits, and confidence that goes on and off like a switch. Those ups and downs hit hard, but they’re real and part of the journey.

Looking ahead to 2018 E.C., I’m full of hope and determination to keep growing, stay consistent, and turn those struggles into stepping stones. The best is yet to come.
