If you play chess regularly, what is the reason behind you playing regularly? 😁

Me: It is one of the only games I think I am somehow good at 😅 ... additionally, it helps me focus and improve my problem solving skills..

My freelancing journey

In this post, I wanna share how I got into freelancing and things that helped me stand out. I am a level two seller on Fiverr working as a desktop app developer.

How did I get into freelancing?
So, my way into freelancing was because of being part of the Tech With Tim discord server. Tim released a new video on how he made $500 freelancing online with basic stuff on Fiverr. It became the topic of talk in the server and many ppl started opening Fiverr profile. I said to myself why not and opened my profile in december, 2020.

How did I get my profile growing?
I knew opening gigs on Fiverr with well known skills and getting orders from those were nearly impossible as a starter. So, I researched on things that are in demand but less freelancers were focusing on it. I stumbled upon Network programming. It was basically about building basic tcp/udp stuff for uni students. I guess, I was the 4th person to open that gig on Fiverr. Since we were few, we controlled the market for a while and I grew my profile with that. But nowadays, this gig is not working as much, because the clients are students, and AI is helping them now.

Later on, I did open many gigs, but non of them outperformed except, again, for my avalonia desktop app development gig. I was literally the second person to open that gig on Fiverr. Though there are not many order requests I receive from this gig, I get to hold my clients for long, since avalonia development service is very rare.

———————————

In another upcoming post, I will explain the process behind how I create outstanding gigs on Fiverr.
Stay tuned 🔥

Btw, for the ppl who use the Lunacy designing app for graphics design, the desktop app is built with Avalonia.

For those who don't know Lunacy, it is just like Figma, and it is free. More about it here.

Finally,
A heavy cloud has lifted,
after the storm of focus and might,
now the sky is clear and bright,
the path ahead unburdened, open wide.

Continuation from the post here

How do I create outstanding gigs on Fiverr?
This section is specific to Fiverr only. The first thing I do when I create gigs is I try to look for similar gigs in the market. Then, I do the following analysis on them:
1. Their pricing structure
2. Tags they used to make their gig appear well on the search
3. What they have written in the denoscription section
4. The thumbnail they used

After the analysis, I don't directly copy everything, rather, I take insights on things that were missing in my gig, and put my own touch on top of it. I update my own touch regularly. It can be specific things you mention about your character or specific service you give along the way. It is necessary to make you outstand. After creating the gig, I regularly try to look for changes I can make to my pricing structure, denoscription, tags, etc...

Secondly, being niche specific is good as a starter since the market is already overwhelmed with many high rated freelancers who give their gig a general name like "I will develop mobile apps" and control the market. if you are a mobile developer with some tech, let us say .NET MAUI, then, giving it tags like maui, dotnet, csharp, and then naming the gig "I will develop mobile apps with .NET MAUI" will give you a better chance of getting order than giving it a general name. After you start receiving orders, and the visibility of your gigs are going well, you may eventually go back to the general naming.

General naming is better as your gig grows because, often, clients just want their idea developed and don't really care about the tech stack. Or if there are some aware of it, you can probably succeed in convincing them to use your tech stack. If you do general naming at the start, it is hard for you to compete with the giants in the market. So, being niche specific, then eventually generalizing is a better approach. For example, I started with "I will develop cross-platform desktop apps with Avalonia" to "I will develop cross-platform desktop apps".

💡I hope these insights helped. If you have questions, let me know in the comments!
If you are already an established freelancer on Fiverr or elsewhere, would love if you could share your experience 😊

Three months ago, I was at 500 Elo in rapid chess. Now, I’m comfortable enough to say that I am a four-figure chess player 😅

I was just reading this comprehensive and detailed guide to filters in ASP .NET. I have been using Microsoft documentations well since I got to be a .NET dev, and I cannot really appreciate enough of the style and process of documentation writing Microsoft follows. For those .NET devs who prefer reading, Microsoft documentation is all you can ask for 💎

Just won a rapid chess match with a whopping 62 moves at 89.1% accuracy. It is barely achievable to get that accuracy with 30+ moves for someone who just got into the four-figure rating 😄

No mistakes, misses and blunders.
And as usual, no brilliant moves 🥲
