I'd like to call everyone's attention to the Restrict Act (S. 686), which is also known as "the TikTok ban."
The short of it is this bill is WORSE than the Patriot Act. It's the Patriot Act on steroids. National security risks surrounding TikTok is just a veil to cover up a more sinister attempt to give the federal government the ability to censor, control and overstep security and privacy measures when it comes to the access or distribution of content on the Internet. To make matters worse, any attempt to circumvent measures imposed within the new bill would mean jail time and fines—up to 20 years and up to a $1,000,000 fine. Oh, and seizing of property and assets, too. Here's a quick overview of the bill in tweet form.
This dystopian nightmare of a bill is not about TikTok. This is about control.
If you're a US citizen, this urgently needs your action and your attention to protect your rights and the rights of others in the digital age.
