In Luke chapter 1, Zechariah’s mouth was closed by God until His promise came to pass. Zechariah’s wife was barren and God said she would give birth to a son. That son would grow up to become John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Jesus, the Messiah, to come. But Zechariah doubted God’s promise because of the circumstances.

It was God’s mercy and goodness to close Zechariah’s mouth so that he would not destroy the seed of the promise with his mouth. God knew that Zechariah, being a priest of God, had power in his tongue to speak life over God’s promises to him or to destroy them with his words.

If we are in Christ, 1 Peter 2:9 says that “we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood.” We are all priests of God who are called to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24) and to sacrifice our lives on the altar so that Jesus can live His life through us (Romans 12:1). We all have the power of life or death in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).

With that being said, are we partnering with God in speaking life over our families/friends, work places, finances, and nation? Or are we killing the seeds of God’s promises with our tongue?

Don’t destroy your inheritance, friends. I know you are tired, weary, and wondering when the battle we are in will finally come to an end! But in our weakness, Jesus’ strength will shine through us if we seek Him for it. He doesn’t call us to battle and leave us to fend for ourselves—He has every resource we need to be more than conquerors—so we must be sure to ask Him for what we need so that He can supply it (Matthew 7:7).

Psalm 23 was in my spirit tonight. I know it by the NKJV but decided to read it in TPT. No wonder the world thinks Christians are crazy! Those who abide in Jesus do not fear what tomorrow could bring, nor do they fear death. To live is Christ, but to die is gain; either way, Jesus reigns! 🙌🏻
