Tl;dr, MODERN HISTORY: Henry VIII stole the property of the Church, closed the monasteries, and burned the images of Our Lady. His daughter Elizabeth I used her privateers, aka pirates, to steal the gold of the Spanish.
Together, Henry VIII and Elizabeth ensured the collapse of the Hapsburg resistance to the Reformation (although the Hapsburgs were doing their own deals with the Fuggers, which bankrupted them both).
Once the Anglo-Saxons lost their ties to their own tradition with the destruction of their monasteries, they became "white," aka deracinated and "liberal" (see John Locke).
The rest is history.

In 1946, the Rockefeller Foundation allotted $139,000 to the cost of a two-volume history of World War II, written by William L. Langer, a member of the CFR, and S. Everett Gleason. The generous grant was supplemented by a gift of $10,000 from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The Langer-Gleason work was published by Harper and Brothers for the Council on Foreign Relations: Volume I in 1952 under the noscript, The Challenge To Isolationism, 1937-1940; Volume II in 1953, under the noscript, The Undeclared War. The CFR's stated purpose in bringing out this work was to head off the revisionist historians like Charles Callan Tansill, Harry Elmer Barnes, Frederic R. Sanborn, George Morgenstern, Frances Neilson. The truth, however, is not easy to suppress." (Smoot, 1962)

Dominick Mireles, director of Philadelphia’s Office of Emergency Management, said officials would be dealing with the collapse and the fire for a long time.
“Today’s going to be a long day. And obviously with 95 northbound gone, and southbound questionable, it’s going to be even longer than that,” Mireles said. “The roadway’s gone.”
Tumar Alexander, managing director for the City of Philadelphia, said “95 will be impacted for a long time,”
