"Haggard didn’t really do fantasy, his books were romantic adventures usually set in Africa but he his writing laid the groundwork for both high fantasy and sword & sorcery fiction.  Haggard’s hand can be felt in both Middle Earth and the Hyborian World of Conan. While best known for the Allan Quartermain novels and King’s Solomon’s Mines in particular, Haggard did dabble in fantasy with SHE. "

The problem was that Perlmutter appears to have been fundamentally incapable of not seeking mega buyout ultra riches at the expense of long-term achievement.  It […]

"Many anticipate one flashy “big arrow” event, like a total Hezbollah declaration of war and invasion of north Israel. But in fact, the slow needling strategy of tension from the Iran-aligned side is doing great harm to the West and its political fabric. There are renewed rumors of huge, unprecedented ‘mutinies’ within the [deep] State Department of the U.S.

"Yesterday a report hit the newswires that American diplomats and consuls in the MidEast, acting as canaries in the coalmine, are signaling alarm from their milieu that an entire “generation of Arab support” is being lost by what the U.S. is helping perpetrate in Gaza."

This was a real headline during Covid.

Never forget that this is the same media industry today and that nothing has changed. They will lie to you, propagandize you, and manipulate you to get whatever they want without remorse.

Hopefully someday, we will hold these demons accountable.

Unstoppable Italian Stallion: Guglielmo Marconi Edition

The young Marconi arrived in the scientific capital of the world at the time, London, with his hopeful new invention in hand. He discovered himself inside a giant snake pit. Learned philosophes of science of the day, self-styled as the "Maxwellians", looked far down their noses at the amateurs and tinkers whom they derisively referred to as "mere practitioners" of a noble art they could only dimly understand.

The problem is that the self-styled wizards also only dimly understand their own arts, as it happens. And here we enter the age old combat of Science vs. Engineering. You'd think that Marconi's eventual triumph over the Maxwellians ought be cause for circumspection and reevaluation among the attitudes in the ivory towers. But, alas, nope!
