🇩🇪 In Dresden, on the oldest square, the Altmarkt, the innoscription that was painted in memory of the victims of the city's bombing by the US and British Air Forces in February 1945 has disappeared, writes Bild.
The absence of the innoscription was noticed by the townspeople. The newspaper asked city authorities for clarification, but they said that “the redesign of the memorial to the victims of the air raids of February 13 and 14, 1945 is proceeding as planned.” They promised to give more detailed comments later.
In the 20th century, it was believed that between 100 and 300 thousand city residents were killed as a result of the bombing. Now in Germany they cite a much lower figure: 25 thousand.
The documented number of completely destroyed residential buildings exceeded 78 thousand.
The Americans explained the ruthlessness of the bombing by the fact that the city was an important center of the military industry. In Germany, many consider the bombing of Dresden a war crime.
