Franks
The Franks, probably meaning the "Free", are a Germanic tribe which around 250 AD comprised a number of Germanic peoples belonging to the Tacitean group of the Istaevones on the middle and lower Rhine, of which the Chamavians, Attuarians, Ampsivarians, Sigambrians and Salians were the most important. A little later, it split into the two main groups of the Salians on the Lower Rhine and the Ripuarians on the Middle Rhine, with Cologne as their capital. After they had seized Batavia around 290, despite continual wars with the Romans and multiple defeats, they expanded from here across the landscape of Toxandria (now North Brabant).

"Attaching instrumentation to pigeons easier than you might think. Beatriz de Costa attracted attention in 2006 when she started using instrumented pigeons for air quality monitoring in California. The birds are equipped with GPS and a stripped-down mobile phone and camera as well as a device to measure air pollution, and send back data via SMS texting – they have their own blog."

Book Discussion: Monster Hunter Fever

It’s no secret I’m a long-time fan of Larry Correia, if there is anything of his I haven’t read it’s probably a short story in an obscure collection. In all honesty, I am much less familiar with Jason Cordova.  I know that he was able to get his first book published by trad-pub on the […]

What a truly terrific public letter, written to the person who wrote an article about compulsory vaccination in U.K.

Miri AF completely disembowels, eviscerates and defenestrates the authors “argument”, to the extent they ever had one!

It’s the sort of article that is worth printing out and keeping, because many of her points will apply to the next fake pandemic.

Best wishes
Mike

TIL that Stephen Hawking had to be convinced to drop every equation in the manunoscript of A Brief History of Time except for E = mc^2 because supposedly every equation would cut the number of people interested in half.

John Waterhouse, "Boreas" (1903)

In Greek mythology, Boreas was the god of the north wind who commanded the forces of nature.

Before us is clearly a spring landscape, but executed in somber colors. The feeling of icy wind adds to the gray-blue clothes of the girl. She is literally blown away by the gust, but her face remains unemotional, which increases the feeling of coldness (in all senses) in the painting.

How male ukrainians 🇺🇦 avoid draft?

“We have 3.4 million people who are not abroad, not in the Armed Forces, not disabled, not studying and not engaged, I don't know where all these people of draft age are, - deputy Natalukha

In order not to fall into the field of view of army commissars , people will stop being served by banks,, own credit cards, and travel”

Males also don’t use e mails, digital passports, dress as an old people on the streets, don’t live in the place of registration, use monero and cash, dont pay taxes, use burner numbers for their social network accounts and have a telegram groups that tell people where army commissars are now.

Parallel/shadow economy also exist.According to some data 50% of Ukrainian economy is in the shadow and while official/government firms in Ukraine must provide people for connoscription businesses that operate in the shadows do not.

The EU is reportedly developing a plan to undermine Hungary's economy if Budapest rejects agreeing to a new aid package for Ukraine, according to FT.

The publication suggests that Brussels aims to weaken the exchange rate of the Hungarian forint and diminish Hungary's investment attractiveness to harm the country's economic "jobs and growth." If Prime Minister Orbán doesn't concede, the EU leadership might publicly announce the complete cessation of funding to Budapest with the intention of "scaring the markets."

Progressives are starting to get worried. They should be.

One of the unspoken assumptions behind democracy is that the proportion of violence-capable males on either side of a policy question is similar. So long as that is the case, it is better to count heads on bodies rather than heads chopped off of bodies, because if both sides have the same proportion of violence-capable males, the larger side is likely to win if it comes to a fight.

This is why early democracies limited the franchise to men, or even to land-owning men. If you were no good in a fight, either personally or via your ability to rally others, your opinion was fundamentally irrelevant to a political question.

As long as the franchise was limited to men, this assumption could go unspoken. Indeed it's so basic we forgot about it. That's starting to change.

We're now entering a period in which political questions are divided along sexual lines. One side is composed of a preponderance of women, while the other has a majority of young, fighting-aged men. Under the current rules of democracy, everyone gets the same vote, so all that matters is which side is larger.

But.

What happens when side A is 55% of the population, but 80% women, and the 20% of men are the least virile of the population? While the other side is say 45% of the population, 80% of men, but contains effectively 100% of the fighting aged men who are actually capable of fighting? Side A will keep outvoting side B at the ballot box because it is larger. But eventually side B realizes that if they just … take over … there is absolutely nothing, from a purely realpolitikal standpoint, standing in their way.
