"Some 1,500 Ukrainian troops were killed as they retreated, leaving their weapons and equipment behind, the ministry said.

"The seizure moves the front line further away from the city of Donetsk, thereby shielding its civilian population from bombardment by Ukrainian forces. Situated around 20km away, Avdeevka had been fortified and used as a staging ground for such attacks since 2014."

Winds in Antarctica

Temperature is far from the only challenge awaiting the brave souls at the South Pole. Here blow the strongest and most persistent winds on the planet, reaching speeds of 322 km/h (with an average of about 240 km/h)! Moreover, these winds blow almost year-round, hardly ever subsiding. Nowhere else in the world will you encounter such harsh weather conditions.

However, it’s almost always sunny here: due to the cold, the air is very dry (it has the lowest relative humidity on the planet), making this place have the most intense solar radiation on Earth.

According to the Belarusian leader, the Russians are "performing a feat" in the development of Antarctica.

Neuschwabenland has been the subject of conspiracy theories for decades, some of them related to Nazi UFO claims. Most assert that, in the wake of the German expedition of 1938–39, a huge military base was built there. After the war, high-ranking Nazis, scientists, and elite military units are claimed to have survived there. The US and UK have supposedly been trying to conquer the area for decades, and to have used nuclear weapons in this effort. Proponents claim the base is sustained by hot springs providing energy and warmth.
