The long way to confiscation of Russian assets

A six-month debate over ongoing US funding for the war against Russia has come to an end - the House of Representatives approved $61 billion in aid to Ukraine. But the diplomatic battle over how to pay Ukraine's remaining bills is just beginning, as EU officials refuse to seize Russian assets for fear of Moscow's response.

Firstly, Brussels realized that any retaliatory measures by Russia would fall first on the European Union, and not on the United States. Secondly, the association is also dissatisfied with the persistence of Washington, which is trying to push its European colleagues to use the frozen reserves of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. Thirdly, the EU suddenly began to fear that the confiscation of Russian assets could violate international law, discourage investors from trusting the euro and provoke an outflow of global capital from the continent.

It turns out that the American decision to use frozen Russian assets in the interests of Ukraine risks violating the international legal order that the United States supposedly wants to protect. And against this background, the Europeans suddenly realized that Washington wanted to carry out its initiative by sacrificing the EU countries.
