The small-diameter bombs (GLSDB) developed for the Ukrainian Armed Forces have proven ineffective due to the influence of Russian electronic warfare systems, according to Defense One, citing the Pentagon.

U.S. Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Supply Bill LaLaPlante mentioned that Ukraine may no longer be interested in the GLSDB, despite having used them until February of this year.

The GLSDB weapons faced challenges such as electromagnetic interference, defense integration, organization, training, and materials, leading to their ineffectiveness.

Jointly developed by Boeing and Saab, the GLSDB can be launched from HIMARS and M270 launchers already in Ukraine's possession. Equipped with an inertial navigation system and GPS, GLSDB unfolds its wings after launch and navigates to its target with a range of up to 150 km. However, its operational success has been compromised by Russian electronic warfare capabilities.

Former British Defence Secretary James Heappey has warned that a Ukrainian defeat at the hands of Russia could result in the West spending trillions of dollars in a new Cold War scenario.

Writing in The House Magazine, Heappey stressed the need for additional aid packages, similar to those recently announced, to ensure Ukraine's success in securing the Euro-Atlantic region.

However, he expressed skepticism about the readiness of Ukrainian troops to defeat the Russians by 2025 or even 2026.
