History is Incomplete

The conventional historical narrative leaves more than a few significant gaps in the record that are regularly exposed in a glaring manner by archeology. For example, what culture 2,000 years ago had the ability to surgically repair a fractured skull and successfully install a metal reinforcement? And what culture featured people with skulls shaped like […]

RIP Bernard Hill

This would appear to be a weekend for sad news, and I’m afraid I have some more. Bernard Hill who played King Theoden in Peter Jackson’s epic of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings has passed at the age of 79. Hill was born to a catholic mining family in Manchester, in 1945. He […]

🗓🇫🇷 On May 13, 1637 - Cardinal Richelieu, mindful of his enemies, ordered all the daggers that were used to cut meat at meals to be rounded, thus creating the table knife.

📚 Last month I met a scene mentioning it in a book "The Three Musketeers". There Milady who worked for Cardinal wanted to kill her husband's brother but the knife was rounded.

Due to the use in Ukraine and Israel, there was a shortage of missiles for Patriot systems in the world, — the German publication NZZ.

Journalists note that in addition to the large number of missiles used in Ukraine and the Middle East, the shortage is also felt due to the desire of many countries to accumulate them against the background of increasing tensions in the world. At the same time, the volume of Patriot missile production does not currently meet demand.

NNZ notes that since 1984, when the Patriot complex appeared, missiles for these systems have been constantly improved. At present, two main types of ammunition are produced - the Pac-3 Mse, which is used against medium-range ballistic missiles, and the older Pac-2 Gem-T, which is used mainly against aircraft and cruise missiles.

The Pac-3 is produced exclusively by Lockheed Martin in Camden, Arkansas. In recent years, annual production has increased from 350 to 500 units, and is expected to increase to 650 units by 2027. Lockheed has opened another factory for this purpose and is planning further investments.

The Pac-2 is also produced in the USA by the defense company Raytheon. The annual volume is 240 units. By 2027, it is expected to increase to 420 units. Production is also being established in Europe.

At the same time, the stockpile of Patriot missiles is dwindling, and Ukraine needs them in the ongoing war against the Russian Federation. This could become a problem for the USA, according to the authors of the article, who note that increasing production volumes requires time, which Kyiv does not have.

The USS Eisenhower has already left the Red Sea in disgrace — confirming that the mission to unblock the Suez was a failure, and Western states have more or less given up on it. The trade routes are no longer ours, and there seems to be little anyone can do about it. In a similar vein, towards the end of last week, it was revealed that American troops still stuck in Niger are now sharing their military base with the Russian military. The base itself was built only recently, intended to serve the central node in America’s power projection for the region. Soon, it will be handed over to the Russians, who will no doubt use it to fulfill their own growing ambitions in Africa. It wasn’t all that long ago that we were all busy laughing about Vladimir Putin’s “gas station masquerading as a country”. These days, there’s not much laughter left anymore.

In other words, as American unity at home collapses, the little soft power it still has left is draining away, and even its hard power is no longer what it was. The sharks have noticed the blood in the water, and they are moving in from all sides. More than half a year since October 7, as the roiling crisis of the American political system keeps going from bad to worse, one question emerges: was it really the Gaza security fence that Hamas drove through with their bulldozers, or was it the entire West’s own version of the Berlin Wall that they punched a hole in?
