🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇦 The US commander suggested that British special forces were operating in Ukraine.

Earlier, General Brian Fenton told the AP that the United States was “taking a lot of lessons” from British special forces in Ukraine.

The UK Ministry of Defense refused to comment on this information.

A Russian court has seized nearly 800 million euros from three European banks: Deutsche Bank (€239 million), Commerzbank (€94 million), and UniCredit (€463 million).

The seizure was initiated by Gazprom's subsidiary, Rushimalyans, which had contracted the German company Linde in 2021 to design and build a gas processing plant in Ust-Luga, Leningrad Region. Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, UniCredit, and two other banks acted as guarantors in the deal.

In 2022, both Linde and the guarantor banks refused to fulfill their obligations due to EU sanctions against Russia, despite the company having transferred an advance.

According to Financial Times sources, the Italian government is scheduled to meet on April 20 to discuss the confiscation of UniCredit's assets in Russia.

A German politician has been found guilty of ‘incitement’ by a district court after she posted a link to the government’s own statistics on crimes committed by migrants, specifically rape, and asked why they are so disproportionately high.

"Even more interesting was the reveal of the genesis of NPR’s new CEO, Katherine Maher, a 41-year-old with a distinctly odd CV. Maher had put in stints at a CIA cutout, the National Democratic Institute, and trotted onto the World Bank, UNICEF, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Center for Technology and Democracy, the Digital Public Library of America, and finally the famous disinfo site Wikipedia. That same week, Tunisia accused her of working for the CIA during the so-called Arab Spring. And, of course, she is a WEF young global leader.

"She was marched out for a talk at the Carnegie Endowment where she was prayerfully interviewed and spouted mediatized language so anodyne, so meaningless, yet so filled with nods to her base the AWFULS (affluent white female urban liberals) one was amazed that she was able to get away with it. There was no acknowledgement that the criticism by this award-winning reporter/editor/producer, who had spent his life at NPR had any merit whatsoever, and in fact that he was wrong on every count. That this was a flagrant lie didn’t even ruffle her artfully disarranged short blonde hair."

Decades ago the Economist came up with the Big Mac Index, which was an attempt to measure purchase power parity across nations. Turns out it was a reasonably accurate method, roughly lining up with official statistics, and much easier to measure.

In short, the Big Mac is a surprisingly reliable measure of purchasing power.

Fraudsters have stolen almost £1 billion from the Ministry of Defence since 2010.

"MoD accused of being a “soft touch for thieves and corrupt government officials”, according to one senior civil servant"

I'm not a fan of Cummings but I agree with his sentiments here, and the revolving door between ministers, civil service and defence contractors. Many are getting rich off misery and blood. Look at what he says about Ukraine.

The Biden Adminstration puts tariffs on Chinese imports: The US rolled out steep tariffs on Chinese products on Tuesday, quadrupling duties on electric vehicles (EVs) to over 100% and imposing new levies on computer chips, solar cells and lithium-ion batteries. The White House says the new measures are intended to “protect American workers and businesses.” […]

"Yes, the big lesson learned in the George Floyd riots for SPD is that a static riot line of police is not sustainable for more than a day. Because the protesters are fanatics, they will stay out there for weeks, tormenting the cops on the line and gradually increasing the provocation until they get the cops to react. And eventually, the police are going to react and try to make arrests, and there’s going to be tear gas. That’s what we learned. It’s just not sustainable to stand there and let them abuse you."
