TIL: William Bailey was a Harvard dropout turned salesman who promoted using radioactive radium as a cure-all. He claimed it can cure mental illness, diabetes, flus, etc. He became wealthy. He died of cancer and when his body was exhumed, it was found to be "ravaged by radiation".

Onement VI is a painting which sold for a price of $43.84 million.
I bet you're thinking who in the world would pay 43m for this painting that you can DIY for 30$.
Allow me to explain how this goes.
*Millionaire makes $43m in 2024
*He hires an artist to make "art" for $25k
*Artist puts one streak on canvas.
*Millionaire thanks artist, and has art appraised by an appraiser who is in his same circle of friends.
*Appraiser values artwork at $43m
*Millionaire donates $43m artwork to museum to get $43m tax written off
*Millionaire pays no taxes in 2024.
*Me at museum: This is literally stupid, it's just a line on a canvas.
*Person next to me: No, you just don't understand it because you're uncultured..

"Is electricity a fluid of some sort contained within a wire? Or is it the result of fields pervading the otherwise free space around charges and currents? And if it is fields, what is going on in the medium to give rise to the activity and behavior we call “fields?” Now might be a good time to examine what electricity and magnetism are at a fundamental level and the speculations, explanations, and models investigators have proposed."

As we talk about Maxwellian electrodynamics (as brought to fruition by Hertz, Heaviside, Poynting, FitzGerald, and Lodge), it's important to realize that there are alternate viable approaches to electromagnetism. John Plaice discusses how action-at-a-distance proponents refused to accept the Maxwellian paradigm and continue to advocate their alternate approach.

“It’s fundamentally a gnostic movement, where people are saved by ideas, and there’s the oppressors and the oppressed, and they’re attacked by force, and it usually ends up in violence,” Richard said. “It’s based on this engagement of a confrontation of oppressor and oppressed, that’s so fundamental. It’s created the polarization we see now.”

Gradual infiltration of ideas so as to shape culture without its members even realizing it: This is what one man in the 20th century set out to do — and at the time, he even did it with the initial help of the Catholic Church. The man was Saul Alinsky, a…
