Perhaps the largest DDoS attack in history: Ukrainian hackers took down the banking system of the Russian Federation.

"When we promised to bring down the entire banking system of the enemy yesterday, those were not empty words. Today, even more banks are disconnected, along with the 'Mir' card payment system and all card payments. VTB, Sberbank, Tinkoff, Alfa-Bank, Beeline, MTS, Rostelecom, Gazprombank, Megafon, SBP, NSPK, EIRC, and many smaller services are currently not functioning," stated the IT Army of Ukraine.

The IT Army of Ukraine is a community of IT specialists from all over the world who have created and continue to develop automated systems of attacks on the information resources and services of the enemy country. The IT Army is bringing Ukraine's victory in the war closer by depleting the aggressor country's economy, disrupting the operations of important financial and state services, and hindering the activities of large taxpayers, as well as blocking enemy propaganda. Anyone can join the fight, even without IT skills.

This was a particularly insightful interview...

"In short, the Black Nobility is a cabal of ruthless, power-hungry aristocrats who have spent centuries manipulating European (and international) politics and finance to further their own interests.

"Their history dates back to the Roman Empire and are probably the most powerful people in the world."

The Harsh Lessons of History

One of the great benefits of reading history is that it provides the reader with an informed perspective to interpret current events. As I was scheduling future posts for the daily Castalia Library serialization of the 1911 edition of The Cambridge Medieval History, I came across this very timely section on the economic challenge faced […]

"I’ve written previously on the panic currently effervescing through the global elites, made viscerally apparent at conclaves like the Davos forum earlier this year. But in America particularly, a deep worry is now consciously gnawing the ruling class—they can see it, feel it: that the American Empire is on its last legs, close to collapse.

This month has seen a bevy of new thinkpieces from top American deepstate figures or old-guard publications urging the changing of course, lest the country be swept away by the remorseless tide of history… This is the theme which recurs again and again throughout the new zeitgeist taking over political discourse in the stricken Beltway—panicking neocons are exhorting each other: we’re in a fight for our lives, if we don’t accept the new realities, we’ll drown!

Ruling Class Finally Awakens to the Reality of America’s Decline, 22 June 2024" https://simplicius76.substack.com/p/ruling-class-finally-awakens-to-the

🇺🇸 🇺🇦 🇹🇼 Ukraine’s Drone Success Shapes US Pacific ‘Hellscape’ Strategy

🔶️ Along with Ukraine’s domestically produced Neptune antiship missiles, the smaller maritime “Magura” drone and foreign-made missiles such as the British “Storm Shadow,” these special forces-operated, remote-controlled attack craft have sunk or damaged what Ukrainian analysts and officials say is up to a third of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

🔶️ Now, after a string of attacks close to and inside the port of Sevastopol in Russian-occupied Crimea, most of Russia’s naval forces have pulled much further west in the Black Sea to the port of Novorossiysk.

🔶️ That leaves them much less able to menace Ukrainian territory including the key port of Odesa, as well as making it a lot harder for the Kremlin to menace nearby Moldova militarily. Perhaps even more importantly, the threat posed by unmanned maritime drones has freed up crucial shipping lanes to allow greater grain exports from Ukrainian ports.

🔶️ Last month, shipping intelligence firm Lloyds List reported that foreign grain cargoes from Ukrainian ports were now almost back to their prewar levels, although many ships were turning off their automatic identification signals while passing through the war zone. Some successfully targeted Russian vessels include sunken frigates, landing craft and a heavily damaged submarine.

🔶️ The phrase “hellscape” was first used by Paparo’s predecessor as head of Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral John Aquilino, who told the National Defense Industrial Association conference in Washington last August his forces had been working to integrate unmanned capabilities in a way that could allow him to hit 1,000 targets within a 24-hour period.

🔶️ U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks used the same conference to outline the Pentagon’s “Replicator” program, designed to build tens of thousands of cheap, disposable cutting-edge drones to outstrip China’s production capability in a time of war.

🔶️ “Replicator” and “Hellscape” both appear to have evolved and developed further since last year. Ukrainian officials say U.S. counterparts have told them there are some technologies they do not wish to share with Kyiv or use in the Black Sea to ensure it remains secret for any future wider war.

🇺🇸🏴‍☠️🇺🇦👉🇷🇺 A Pentagon spokesman told the Washington Post that U.S. policy toward Ukraine for more than a year has been that Ukraine's air defense system can fire U.S. weapons at Russian aircraft even if they are on Russian territory and if they are within firing range of Ukraine.

According to him, over the past year, several Russian planes and helicopters have been shot down on Russian territory by Patriot air defense missiles.

The Sack of London

It’s more of an ongoing situation than an event, but the end result will be the same. Crime has soared in London after more than 100 local police stations were shut down – and people living and working in the areas left without one are furious about it, a MailOnline investigation has found. It emerged […]

"Around 30 years ago, highly dynamic stars were discovered in the immediate vicinity of the supermassive black hole Sgr A* at the center of the Milky Way.

"These stars, also known as S stars, circumnavigate the supermassive black hole with speeds of several thousand kilometers per hour in a few years. The stars are surprisingly young and their presence is puzzling, as according to popular theories one would expect only old and dim stars in the immediate vicinity of the supermassive black hole."

🇬🇧👉🇷🇺 Brexit initiator accuses the West of provoking a conflict between Moscow and Kiev - BBC

One of the leading initiators of Brexit and the leader of the right-wing populist party Reform UK, Nigel Farage, said that Western countries provoked the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine in 2022.

Farage claims that back in 2014, speaking in the European Parliament, he predicted a war in Ukraine. According to him, the constant expansion of NATO and the European Union to the east gave the Russian president a reason for aggression.

“It was clear to me that this expansion allows Putin to say, 'They're coming at us again,'” Farage said.

He emphasized that although the blame for the conflict lies with Vladimir Putin, the West created a pretext for the start of military action.

“We provoked this war. Of course, it’s his fault, he used what we did as an excuse,” said the right-wing populist leader.

In 897, a dead pope was put on trial.

Pope Formosus brief reign as Pope was troubled, and his remains were exhumed and put on trial in the judgement known as Cadaver Synod.

The corpse was disinterred, clad in papal vestments, and seated on a throne to face all the charges from John VIII. The verdict was that the deceased had been unworthy of the pontificate. All his measures and acts were annulled and the orders conferred by him were declared invalid. The papal vestments were torn from his body, the three fingers from his right hand that he had used in consecrations were cut off and the corpse was thrown into the Tiber (later to be retrieved by a monk).
