🚀 🇺🇸 Recently, SpaceX revealed pictures and specifications of Raptor 3, which is slated to replace the current Raptor 2 on current vehicles. This engine is far more refined, with much of the external plumbing moved internally or removed altogether. A lot of the internal plumbing is regenerative cooling channels built into the engine’s case.

📝 Object Zero: This engine is the greatest rocket engine ever built, BECAUSE they got rid of all the electronics and software. Fluid management system. Nope. The shape of the pipes is the fluid management. All of Mech Eng is full of similar opportunities. To my eye, I still see the unfinished business on Raptor 3, for example I expect Raptor 4 will not have any bolted flanges and I expect the entire upper assembly will already be undergoing another major version iteration. The lower assembly illustrates a tremendous grip of the requirements.

📝 SpaceX Anon: It really is something, benefits of vertical integration. Generally engineers find themselves in the position of having to juggle the costs of having a bespoke part made by a subcontractor vs off the shelf solutions. SpaceX makes just about everything so they have more options. So now thay they know exactly what Raptor needs to do, they can min max a totally purpose built assembly. Also this is only possible because it is a private company. A board of shareholders would shit a brick at all the losses SpaceX has had to absorb over the years due to the high risk of actually owning the entire process start to finish. I'm lucky that my statement of work is only to design, if its something that can just be bought they dont waste a design engineers salary on it. But by contrast my friend who is a test engineer at [redacted] gets blocked anytime he tries to design something for a tester, they just force him to cludge together off the shelf parts.

The UK Government Hates the British

In fairness, Elon Musk did exaggerate a little in describing the situation in the UK as “a civil war”. Because the war between the native English and the foreigners resident there is really just a fairly conventional war of invasion. It’s not as if Keir Starmer is English, after all, or even British. He’s Irish, […]

Off to the Huntsville Hamfest to give my talk (at 1pm). If I get a good recording, I may post it here or on my Substack.

Never Talk to the Media

This is how it’s done. In fact, if everyone refused to talk to the media, its influence would be significantly degraded, because without the cover of direct quotes from the relevant sources, their little hit pieces always end up looking like the groundless opinion pieces they actually are. News query from The Associated Press I’m […]

"3,600 words with one single reference to Neil Gaiman. It’s impressive, in its own unique way. What’s amazing is that the dimwitted SJWs will actually give credit to Scalzi for “addressing the issue” even though he’s done absolutely nothing but evade it to what is very nearly the greatest extent possible."

Gamer Gate Is Over, We Won

Gaming journalism is dead. It died last week. Gideon Litchfield, the Editor and Chief has thrown Wired’s credibility completely down the toilet. He has come forward defending Wired’s ludicrous 1/10 rated review of Hogwarts Legacy. There is no part of this review that isn’t laughably incompetent on every level. It fails at everything a review […]

‼️🇷🇺💥🇺🇸🏴‍☠️🇺🇦 The Russian Armed Forces destroyed 3 rifle complexes, 1 radar and a command post of the Patriot battery discovered in Odessa.

‼️Over the past 1.5 years, the Russian army has destroyed 17 Patriot batteries, causing material damage to the United States in the amount of about 45 billion dollars. Considering that there are only 60 batteries on the mainland of the United States, the losses are enormous.

Thus, the Russian army increases the gap in the air defense for strategic bombing, and in the event of complete suppression of the air defense, a large one-time missile strike can be carried out.
The audio and video came out well - I'll produce and release a video in a few weeks.

"So it was that a German monk of Fulda, rooting through his monastery’s library, discovered and then copied an antique manunoscript – which happened to contain, among other things, a Ciceronian dialogue, a biography of a Roman governor of Britain and a short, obscure treatise on the monk’s own ancient ancestors. The original perished, the copy remained safely preserved in the library for six-hundred years. By then it had probably acquired the distinction of being the only extant copy of each of the three works by Tacitus it contained – the Dialogue on Oratory, the Agricola and, of course, the Germania. Now desperate to shore up their increasingly rickety foundation, the monks were quick to recognise the potential value of the manunoscript. A new renaissance was taking place, one no less hungry for Classical knowledge than its Carolingian forerunner, yet with rather more specific tastes: the political histories of Tacitus, newly rediscovered, were coming into fashion among humanist scholars. One of the monks travelled to Rome and met with a number of manunoscript-hunters, including the future pope Pius II. So began a bidding-war. After thirty years of enticements, wrangling and frustration, the manunoscript finally left Germany, for Italy and a price. At some point it was then lost, but not before further copying had ensured the survival of its contents."

"On 15 August 2024, I was on “Judging Freedom” with Judge Napolitano.

"We discussed the Kursk offensive and where the Ukraine war is headed.

"We also discussed the so-called “indispensable nation,” aka “the United States.

"The Judge has been banned for a week from YouTube, apparently because a censor there was offended by what someone said on the show.
