Ukraine's Foreign Ministry Threatens Mongolia with Consequences for Refusing to Arrest Putin

The official representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Georgy Tykhyi, reported on the social network X that Mongolia “should expect consequences” for not arresting Putin: “The refusal of the Mongolian government to comply with the ICC arrest warrant for Putin is a serious blow to the authority of the International Criminal Court. <…> We will work with our partners to ensure consequences for Ulaanbaatar.”

Vladimir Putin flew to Mongolia to take part in celebrations marking the 85th anniversary of the victory of Soviet and Mongolian armed forces over Japan.

Mongolia was obliged to arrest Putin because the country had ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which had issued an arrest warrant for Putin. The Anti-War Human Rights Coalition called on Mongolia to arrest Putin and created a petition to that effect. Among those who signed were Vladimir Kara-Murza, Boris Zimin, Artur Smolyaninov, and others. However, Mongolia did not arrest Putin.
