Guilty as Charged

The sad little freaks on Reddit are claiming that I have used the Gaiman allegations to promote my views. And I suppose that’s true, to a certain extent. Some prominent TERF and far-right commentators (notably Julie Bindel, Graham Linehan, Vox Day, and Jon Del Arroz; feel free to add more) have used the Gaiman allegations […]

The Evil of Copyright Stands

The Internet Archive lost its appeal in its copyright case against Hachette, HarperCollins, John Wiley and Penguin Random House. This is one of those things that sounds good but doesn't hold up when you look at history. The Romans, Celts, and Germanics could tear you limb from limb, but they were also shame cultures which means hyper-socialized, ultra conformist, and obsessed with "honour", which is basically just what other people think of you. They were as conformist as the modern bugman and more, the only difference is that the social consensus they lived in was actually healthy.

This idea of a whole bunch of individualist chads going their own way in a proto-liberal democracy is a modern invention. Complete ahistorical fan-fiction.

An Incorrect Theory

Author Devon Eriksen expounds his theory of why George R. R. Martin can’t finish A Song of Ice and Fire. While he’s correct that Martin cannot, and almost certainly will not, finish it by himself before he dies, he’s totally and utterly incorrect as to the reason. He’s also wrong about what the saga “actually […]

What an insult to the family of Tom Roberts! Utter disgrace. The Home Office has been spared an inquest into how a violent Afghan asylum seeker entered the country before murdering an aspiring Royal Marine.. Rachael Griffin, senior coroner for Dorset, ruled on Wednesday that there was "no need for a full inquest into the circumstances surrounding Roberts’s death." https://archive.ph/MEj2S

Der Spiegel: During your career, you have kept your distance from Western style democracy. Are you still convinced that an authoritarian system is the future for Asia?

Lee Kuan Yew: Why should I be against democracy? The British came here, never gave me democracy, except when they were about to leave. But I cannot run my system based on their rules. I have to amend it to fit my people's position. In multiracial societies, you don't vote in accordance with your economic interests and social interests, you vote in accordance with race and religion. Supposing I'd run their system here, Malays would vote for Muslims, Indians would vote for Indians, Chinese would vote for Chinese. I would have a constant clash in my Parliament which cannot be resolved because the Chinese majority would always overrule them. So I found a formula that changes that."
