Darth Vader Falls Silent

There wasn’t a single Generation X boy who didn’t at least once (when no one was looking) wheez mechanically in and out through his teeth and pitching his voice as deep as it go, growl, “I. HAVE. YOU. NOW.” James Earl Jones has passed away at the age of 93. Born in 1931 in Arkabutla, […]

GaimanGate Update: Called It!

#TheDarkHeraldWasRight Good Omens season 3 has been “delayed.” I called this back in August when the Coraline sequel went from green light to red light. The Tumblrinas are sobbing about this because of course they are. Granted, these are mostly Tennant fan girls but they are exactly the kind of women that Gaiman would allegedly […]

A kindly person here posted this as a comment.

It’s short enough to watch easily, but the crux of the fakery is from 3.00 to 3.30 minutes.

“At the peak of the pandemic, we estimate 7 deaths from swine flu (or whatever) per day in Belgium”.

Laughs.

“Of course, this is true every year, whether there’s a pandemic or not”.

Audience giggles.

They are so in our faces with this fraud. And ostensibly clever people go on & on about “novel viruses” and the “urgent need for vaccines”, while the media messaging manipulates you with deliberately fear-provoking messages & lines designed to tempt you not only to accept injections but to run selfishly toward the slaughterhouse.

Asking how do people like this sleep at night, the answer is surely money, power and a total disregard for the people they’re deceiving and more than willing to see injured or dead.

Best wishes
Mike

Internet Archive lost an important case on appeal today (September 4, 2024). This case, known as 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐯. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐯𝐞, was brought by four major publishers:

-𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩– Owned by the Lagardère Group, a French media company.
-𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 – Owned by News Corp, an American media conglomerate founded by Rupert Murdoch.
-𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲 & 𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐬 – A publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange.
-𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 – Owned by Bertelsmann, a German media conglomerate.

These publishers sued the Internet Archive over its digital lending practices, focusing on the "National Emergency Library," which allowed unlimited borrowing of scanned books during the COVID-19 “pandemic” without publisher permission. The court ruled this violated copyright laws, and the Internet Archive lost its appeal to reverse the decision.

This ruling will likely have several significant impacts on users and the availability of information moving forward:

1. 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬: The Internet Archive’s digital lending of scanned books will be restricted. This means users will no longer have unlimited, immediate access to multiple copies of the same book, especially those in the "National Emergency Library" program. The Archive will have to comply with traditional lending models where only one digital copy can be borrowed at a time, similar to physical library book loans.

2. 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭: Publishers may push for the removal of certain digital content hosted by the Internet Archive. While this case specifically targeted books, there is concern that it could extend to other media such as academic articles, newspapers, and magazines if publishers assert copyright claims.

3. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬: The ruling could set a legal precedent that threatens other digital archiving projects. It may limit how libraries and educational institutions can provide access to digital versions of copyrighted materials, particularly those scanned from physical copies.

4. 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞: Although the lawsuit specifically focused on the digital book lending program, there are concerns that the ruling could have a ripple effect on other Internet Archive services like the Wayback Machine, which provides access to archived web pages. While not directly impacted by this case, increased scrutiny on copyright practices could affect its future operations.

5. 𝐅𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬: Students, educators, and researchers who relied on the vast collection of digitized materials might find it harder to access certain resources freely and easily. The limitations on lending will disproportionately affect users who need immediate and unrestricted access to multiple materials, such as during research projects.

Essentially, this ruling will likely reduce the Internet Archive’s ability to offer immediate and unrestricted access to its vast collection of digitized books and could have wider implications for digital archiving and free access to information online.

Two great alternatives to Internet Archive regarding e-books for everyone to keep in mind:
