They Are Scrubbing the Internet Right Now
Instances of censorship are growing to the point of normalization. Despite ongoing litigation and more public attention, mainstream social media has been more ferocious in recent months than ever before. Podcasters know for sure what will be instantly deleted and debate among themselves over content in gray areas. Some like Brownstone have given up on YouTube in favor of Rumble, sacrificing vast audiences if only to see their content survive to see the light of day.
It’s not always about being censored or not. Today’s algorithms include a range of tools that affect searchability and findability. For example, the Joe Rogan interview with Donald Trump racked up an astonishing 34 million views before YouTube and Google tweaked their search engines to make it hard to discover, while even presiding over a technical malfunction that disabled viewing for many people. Faced with this, Rogan went to the platform X to post all three hours.
Navigating this thicket of censorship and quasi-censorship has become part of the business model of alternative media.
Incredibly, the service Archive.org which has been around since 1994 has stopped taking images of content on all platforms. For the first time in 30 years, we have gone a long swath of time – since October 8-10 – since this service has chronicled the life of the Internet in real time.

❗️Finland has seized around 40 Russian state-owned properties valued at over 35 million euros, as reported by Yle, citing the Finnish Bailiff Service. This seizure prevents the sale or transfer of these assets, most of which are in Helsinki, with additional properties in Turku and other cities. Among the seized assets are the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Helsinki and the official residence of the Russian Consulate General in Turku.
The Finnish authorities’ actions are in response to an April 2023 ruling by the Arbitration Tribunal at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. The tribunal ordered Russia to pay Naftogaz $5 billion as compensation for losses due to Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea. According to Naftogaz, if Russia does not comply voluntarily, the 1958 New York Convention allows for enforcement in countries where Russian assets are located.
This is reportedly the first instance of asset confiscation related to this ruling. Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia intends to appeal the decision in court.

In the last week of October 2024, Russia reportedly transferred over seven thousand North Korean soldiers from Primorsky Krai to areas near Ukraine, according to Ukrainian intelligence (HUR). The deployment was facilitated by at least 28 Russian military transport planes. These troops were armed with various infantry-style equipment, including 60mm mortars, AK-12 assault rifles, RPK/PKM machine guns, SVD/SVCH sniper rifles, Phoenix anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), and RPG-7 rocket launchers.
Additionally, they received night vision devices, thermal imagers, collimator sights, and binoculars to enhance their combat capabilities. The HUR noted that within the Russian occupation forces, these North Korean soldiers are referred to as “special Buryats.” This transfer signals increasing military cooperation between Russia and North Korea and highlights Russia’s growing reliance on external support for its operations in Ukraine.
