Yesterday on Russian Channel One appeared the flying laboratory Т-50-2ЛЛ (one of the prototypes of the Su-57/T-50 intended for testing things) the AL-51F1 twin turbojet engines with a flat nozzle and deflectable thrust vectoring.
Such an approach will not only reduce the aircraft's visibility in the infrared range, but will also increase its stealth for the radars of the conditional enemy.
Earlier on the website of the Russian Academy of Sciences one could see very interesting images from the presentation of ПАО «ОДК-УМПО» in 2021, dedicated to the work on a promising gas turbine engine.
Because all the pictures that were available before of the second stage engines for the Su-57 did not have a flat exit, but simply "teeth" this gave rise to much speculation about what these engines that were presented were for and now we have answers.
The flat nozzle can be seen oriented at an angle of about 45 degrees with a deflectable thrust vector, providing the machine with an increase in flight and technical parameters due to an increase in afterburning thrust to 18,000 kgf and thrust in emergency mode to 19 - 19.5 tf.
The ratio between dry weight and thrust of this engine in afterburner reaches 0.078, which is an outstanding figure.
It is noteworthy that in addition to a noticeable reduction in the effective reflective surface, this nozzle configuration will also help reduce the infrared signature of the aircraft in the rear hemisphere. The supersonic cruising speed of the Su-57M with AL-51F1 engines can reach 1.95 - 2.1M.
