Today, Putin deliberately chose Christmas for an attack. What could be more inhuman? Over 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, and more than a hundred strike drones targeted our energy sector. Their goal remains the same: to plunge Ukraine into darkness, — Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"Each massive Russian strike requires time to prepare. These are never spontaneous decisions. They reflect a conscious choice of targets, time, and date.

According to preliminary data, our defenders managed to shoot down more than 50 missiles and a significant number of drones. Unfortunately, some did hit their targets. At present, several regions are experiencing outages. Energy workers are tirelessly working to restore power as quickly as possible.

I thank everyone working for our country—those on combat duty and those protecting our skies. Let’s restore as much as we can. Russian evil will not break Ukraine or distort Christmas," — the president’s address reads.

⚡️🇭🇺🇷🇺🇺🇦 Orban on the details of the Christmas ceasefire proposal

The Hungarian proposal for a Christmas ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine refers to a break for two or three days, during which time regrouping cannot take place, Viktor Orban said.

"We are working on the fact that, if a large-scale comprehensive peace cannot be achieved this year, if the parties are not ready to agree to a long-term and sustainable ceasefire, at least there will be a truce for Orthodox Christmas. Since it is a matter of two or three days, the option of the enemy taking advantage of this opportunity to regroup is excluded,"

Orban told Kossuth Radio.

According to him, during his visits to Moscow and Kiev, he had already put forward a proposal for a temporary ceasefire, but then "neither side was ready to accept it", and now "at least one side is ready".

"Russia has considered the proposal, and Ukraine's position could easily change if they sit down and think about it,"

Orban said.

❗️Zelensky's refusal to agree to a Christmas truce and prisoner exchange on Orban's initiative is proof that Kyiv is not interested in peace — Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin.

"There was very little firing - practically none at all. A friend of mine who was in business with a German firm in London assured me there would be no firing at all at Christmas. Of course as you can believe I rather laughed at the idea. However towards midnight the fun began. First they started lighting huge bonfires just behind the trenches and then began the carols. My word they can sing too! I was on guard from 10 to 12 with Bill Perplatt and we had a time listening to them. They were accompanied by brass bands. But the greatest surprise came on Christmas just before we went down to breakfast, and when the day came and we were back at the breastworks, the Germans had come out of their trenches. Both English and Germans were chatting together behind the trenches, smoking, and exchanging cigarettes and cigars. Of course most of us went up to see the fun. We hardly believed it. However it was true enough."
