TIL Roger Bacon who lived from around 1214 to 1292. In his Epistola de Secretis Operibus, he wrote: “Cars can be made so that without animals they will move with unbelievable rapidity,” and “flying machines can be constructed by which artificial wings are made to beat the air like a flying bird.”

This spider-chart is making the rounds on the internet. Absolutely hilarious, really precious. Classic projection.

Whoever made this can’t fathom that the failure of their policies were their own fault: there just MUST be a group of enormously powerful and exquisitely well coordinated individuals that somehow convinced the public to abandon things that would otherwise have worked —

if only we had locked down harder, if only we never let masks slip below our nose, if only everyone would have been vaccinated sooner, etc. Furthermore, the group people responsible for our problems must be extraordinarily well funded and well organized to pull off such a coup.

The truth — that the people in this chart are an impoverished ragtag collection of loosely associated dissidents trying to do what we can with virtually no resources at our disposal — this notion would just be too bruising for their fragile egos.

I’ve known this for quite a while, but most people still think “sunshine is the main cause of skin cancer”.
Stand by to be surprised.
Cheers

As written in The Lancet:
“Paradoxically, outdoor workers have a decreased risk of melanoma compared with indoor workers, suggesting that chronic sunlight exposure can have a protective effect.”
