German federal police forces, acting on behalf of the Jewish non-governmental organization Center for Analysis, Monitoring and Strategy - which tracks 3,000 German-language channels on Telegram for "disinformation, 'antisemitism,' and right-wing extremism" - has requested personal information on dozens of Telegram accounts and has been allegedly been given it by the app.
Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, has made numerous - now false - statements that Telegram is one of the most private apps on the internet and does not share personal information with any third parties.
