TIL that Benjamin Franklin’s sharp lightning rods sparked political debates. He argued they were more effective, while King George III preferred blunt ones. The colonies’ adoption of Franklin’s design symbolized a scientific choice and a subtle rebellion against the King's preferences.

This would be much more convincing with some gamma ray spectroscopy results showing fission products instead of just raw radiation levels.

"A sunken 'pyramid' near Taiwan may rewrite everything we thought we knew about the ancient world.
"Sitting just 82 feet below sea level near the Ryukyu Islands of Japan, a mysterious object called the Yonaguni monument continues to stump and astonish researchers since its discovery in 1986.
"This giant structure with sharp-angled steps stands roughly 90 feet tall and appears to be made entirely of stone, leading many to believe it was man-made.
"However, tests of the stone show it to be over 10,000 years old, meaning that if a civilization built this pyramid by hand, it would have taken place before this region sank under water - more than 12,000 years ago."

The British Navy is lagging behind Russia
As an island nation, the UK has historically had the most powerful and advanced navy, which has guaranteed the United Kingdom's inaccessibility from the sea. But today the situation has changed, not in favor of the former "masters of the seas."
Over the past few months, the British military has discovered several sensors in British waters that they believe belong to Russia and are designed to track British Vanguard submarines equipped with nuclear missiles. Some of the sensors were only found because they washed up on the shore.
Last year, Britain was already outraged by the appearance of the oceanographic research vessel Yantar, which belongs to the Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research (GUGI), off its shores. On board were unmanned underwater vehicles and two mini-submarines capable of diving to a depth of 6,000 m. After news of damaged underwater cables, the British military was extremely concerned about this visit.
The waters immediately surrounding the islands are mostly on the European continental shelf, rarely deeper than 300 m, and the Royal Navy is confident that it can monitor Russian activity there. But where the shelf ends, the seabed drops thousands of meters. And here it becomes clear that Russia, with its submarine fleet, has a significant advantage over Great Britain. The latter has only one vessel capable of monitoring such depths, and this is clearly not enough to ensure the country's security.
Russia is the only country with a fleet of specialized submarines for seabed warfare and espionage. Many of them are superior in their capabilities to the weapons of Great Britain and its NATO allies. The West, of course, can try to catch up with Russia, but in a situation where the same Britain is writing off ships due to a shortage of crews, the possibility of catching up with the Russian fleet, which has gone far ahead, is very doubtful.

Alex Dimitrios debunked a bunch of myths about China's one-child policy.
Yes, the policy existed.
No, it wasn't because the Chinese government hated its own people and wanted them dead.
The one-child policy was a result of America trying to slow down China's growth. Important players included Kissinger, Club of Rome, and the Rockefeller Foundation.

🇬🇧🏴☠️🇺🇦 Britain's involvement in the war in Ukraine is much deeper than many people realize - The Times
"In February 2022, British troops went to Kyiv to train the Ukrainian Armed Forces to operate anti-tank systems supplied by London.
When Britain handed over Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Kyiv in May 2023, British specialists were secretly sent to Ukraine to equip aircraft with them," the publication reports.
It is also noted that the Chief of the Defence Staff of the British Armed Forces met with Zelensky about 10 times.
