Macron in Kyiv: “History is Watching Us”
Upon arriving in Kyiv, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized his solidarity with the Ukrainian people, praising their courage and resilience in the face of ongoing Russian aggression.
“Returning to Kyiv, I think first of all about the Ukrainian people. For more than three years, you have stood with admirable courage—for your land, for your freedom, and for Europe,” Macron wrote on social network X.
Highlighting the broader implications of the war, he stated: “The security of our continent is at stake. In the face of Russian aggression, our response must be collective. This visit is made jointly with Germany, Poland, and the United Kingdom.”
Macron outlined three key messages:
Peace:
“A just and lasting peace begins with a complete and unconditional ceasefire. This is the proposal we are promoting together with the United States. Ukraine accepted it on March 11. Russia, however, is delaying—setting preconditions, stalling, and continuing its war of aggression. If Moscow continues to obstruct, we will increase the pressure—together as Europeans and in close coordination with the United States. We welcome President Trump’s call to move in this direction. Our unity is our strength. This visit is a testament to that—we all want peace.”
Sovereignty:
“The peace agreement must guarantee Ukraine’s security. That is what we are working toward—in Paris, in London, and now here in Kyiv. We are making progress together.”
Future:
“Ukraine is fighting not only for its people, but also for the European ideal in which we all believe. A free, strong, prosperous, and European Ukraine is our goal. History is watching us.”

The Narrative is Always Wrong
James Delingpole actually reads Machiavelli for the first time and discovers that the generally accepted narrative about the Florentine is almost completely false: Machiavelli was the victim of a Europe-wide hit job. By the time anyone outside Italy had read The Prince – it wasn’t translated into English til 1640 – Machiavelli’s name had long since become […]

TIL that in 2001, a Boy Scout got lost near Yellowstone and ended up spending the night in a cave. In the morning, he woke to the sound of a helicopter and managed to get the pilot's attention. Upon boarding the helicopter, he was shocked to see the pilot was none other than actor Harrison Ford.

In a striking move that ends a nearly four-decades-old relationship between the federal government and the Episcopal Church, the denomination announced on Monday (May 12) that it is terminating its partnership with the government to resettle refugees, citing moral opposition to resettling white Afrikaners from South Africa who have been classified as refugees by President Donald Trump’s administration.

"This first liquid fuel reactor began operation in 1953. This aqueous reactor at ORNL fed 140 kW into the electric grid for 1000 hours. In operation it successfully removed xenon fission products. The intrinsic reactivity control was so effective that the reactor was idled simply by turning off the steam turbine generator. Weinberg called this the “forerunner of a true thermal breeder”."

"What do you know about Machiavelli?
"If you’re anything like me, at least me up until recently, you’ll know that he was the really bad man who invented the philosophy of the ‘end justifies the means’, advised all the worst people in the Renaissance, and said that it is ‘better to be feared than loved.’
