Say goodbye to the penny.
The Treasury Department announced Thursday that the U.S. Mint phase out the coin after 230 years.
According to the Mint's annual report, it costs almost four cents to produce the coin, which dates back to the 1790s. By phasing out the penny's production, the Treasury expects to save an immediate $56 million annually.

TIL about feline grooming traps. Used to control invasive cats in Australia, the trap identifies and sprays cats with a toxic gel, which the cat ingests while grooming, eventually killing it. The gel is derived from a chemical that Australian native plans produce and is safe for native animals.

Kiev has complained that the EU’s decision to cancel duty-free imports from Ukraine could push the country “to the brink of recession,” writes Euractiv.
The chairman of Ukraine’s Economic Affairs Committee, Dmytro Natalukha, said that the EU is “undermining Ukraine’s economic ability to continue the conflict.” He claims that Kiev is “forced to become a beggar.”
Natalukha said.
The EU Commission recently announced that Brussels will not extend duty-free imports of goods from Ukraine, and the EU is preparing to significantly increase tariffs on agricultural products from Ukraine from June 6.
