Ukraine has used an AI-powered "drone-mother" for the first time, Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced.
According to Fedorov, the drone-mother delivers two FPV strike drones to a range of up to 300 kilometers. These drones can autonomously locate and strike targets, including aircraft, air defense systems, and critical infrastructure.
If the mission range is within 100 kilometers, the drone-mother returns for reuse. Each mission costs around $10,000—300 to 500 times cheaper than launching a missile.
The SmartPilot system relies on visual-inertial navigation, using cameras as its primary guide. LIDAR enhances precision. Artificial intelligence identifies and selects targets independently.
