Russia Shifts Tactics: Targeting Ukrainian Recruitment Centers to Undermine Mobilization — The Washington Post
Ukrainian authorities are reporting a dangerous shift in Russian military tactics: targeted attacks on military registration and enlistment offices aimed at disrupting Ukraine’s mobilization efforts. In the first days of July alone, five Recruitment Centers were hit, killing three people and injuring 88—mostly civilians.
“Last week — Kryvyi Rih, two in Poltava, one in Kremenchuk. This week — Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv. This is a noticeable trend,” said Colonel Vitaliy Sarantsev of the Land Forces Command of Ukraine. “Their goal is to disrupt the mobilization process in our country. They are trying to sow doubt and fear among citizens, creating an image of a dangerous place where it is too risky to go.”
Facing an enemy with overwhelming numerical superiority, Ukraine is under constant pressure to replenish its forces. But after three years of grueling war, enlistment is increasingly difficult, with many actively trying to avoid the draft. The attacks on mobilization institutions have only deepened these challenges.
According to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, this wave of systematic attacks marks a new phase since the start of the full-scale invasion.
“At first, the enemy relied on information campaigns—exaggerating isolated incidents and discrediting both mobilization and the centers themselves,” Kovalenko said.
Last year, Russia escalated to sabotage: recruiting local agents, paying them, and supplying explosives in attempts to stage attacks at center entrances.
“It was terrorism by contract. But that didn’t work either—mobilization continued, and Ukrainian intelligence successfully foiled many plots,” he added.
Moscow has since turned to drone strikes as its latest tactic.
“This will not stop the mobilization,” Kovalenko emphasized. “Most of the data on citizens of draft age has long been digitized. It is simply impossible to disrupt the process in this way.”

"How this happened is insidious. To take but one example: During Covid, German politicians didn’t like the fact that people were calling them names on the internet. They therefore voted to enhance penalties for insults directed against those “in political life.” Then, some of them ran off and founded an internet censorship NGO-cum-startup called “So Done,” the entire business model of which involves using AI tools to find people insulting politicians and referring these politician-insulters for prosecution. When these maledictors are ordered to pay compensation to their “victims,” the insulted politicians split the money with So Done, and everybody is happy."

"There is still a stigma for the never-married over-30 woman. But it’s nowhere near as bad as the stigma of being the woman with the humiliating husband. If her friends hate her husband/LTR, if her coworkers are uncomfortable around him… that’s a death sentence. For her social life, for her career, maybe even for her relationship with her family.
"So when you ask out a woman, carefully evaluate what you are asking her to submit to. Because it is a request for submission, however genteelly phrased.
"Make sure your request is a reasonable one."

There are international accords outlawing this level of savagery...

Vox Day has already been working on this with a serialized novel called Monster Control Inc. In this, he’s trained AI to write in Larry Correia’s style to provide a signature version that reads enough like Correia that if you didn’t know it was written by AI, you might think it’s Correia’s novels.
...
The style is incredibly similar to the way Correia writes with quick denoscriptions and snappy dialogue while the narration is tough and snarky. Greg Preston here has that arrogant authority figure style that feels like a Correia MHI client or protagonist. If one had read the prior fourteen installments, one would note that the whole structure of the novel feels like it could fit in with MHI easily.
After reading Monster Control Inc., a discerning reader must conclude that it’s as good as several of Correia’s MHI novels, perhaps not his best in the series, and certainly not as good as John Ringo’s installments, but it does beat many of his collaborators in the universe in quality, definitely the iteration Correia sent to Sarah Hoyt to write.
AI is an interesting tool because it acts very similar to Baen Books as a publisher in collaboration. An author can input an outline and story idea, hand it off to the AI just like a “co-written” collaborator and edit the text afterward to give it the feel the desire. With AI already able to do Monster Hunter International, Larry Correia has quite the work cut out for him to see if he can do American Paladin as well as Monster Control Inc.

"The Devil Wears Prada is, then, a movie that catered to millennial women who would have been in their early 20s when it was released. Anne Hathaway was 24, and Emily Blunt was 23. The movie pretends to be their friend, acknowledging that the office is a humiliating slog, that a career can strain personal relationships, and, yes, you may have to adopt a fake persona to survive. Yet there are no escape hatches; the best young women can do is find a niche that they don’t despise.
"In Strauss and Howe's generational theory, millennials are assigned the archetype of “Hero”, similar to the World War II generation. They are the stalwart defenders of a system during a great unravelling. They are stoic and unquestioning, facing one calamity after another. Despite some reservations about generational theory, I have some sympathy with that perspective."
