📹❗️China Unveils DF-5B ICBM with MIRVed Hypersonic Warheads

China has presented its DF-5B intercontinental ballistic missile, which boasts a range of 12,000 km and a MIRV (Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle) warhead configuration consisting of 3 to 10 hypersonic glide vehicles, each with a yield of 3–4 megatons.

The warheads are capable of reaching speeds of Mach 25–23 during the early phase of the reentry trajectory (altitudes of 150–60 km), and around Mach 15–13 in the terminal phase within the stratosphere and troposphere.

The DF-5B is equipped with an advanced countermeasure suite designed to overcome missile defense systems. This includes:
– Decoy penetration aids (dummies)
– Dipole reflectors
– Infrared aerosols
– And likely an electronic warfare suite operating in the X-, Ku-, Ka-, and W-bands.

The missile uses an inertial guidance system, with Beidou satellite correction and astrocorrection during the midcourse phase of flight.

UPD: Comparable systems include Russia’s RS-24 Yars ICBM with a similar number of nuclear warheads, or the Yars-S, a variant with four warheads and a range of 10,000–12,000 km, each with a yield of up to 500 kilotons. However, according to Chinese sources, the warheads on the DF-5B may reach up to 4 megatons in explosive power — a notably higher figure.
