Who was Dr. Henry A. Murray?

Dr. Henry Alexander Murray (born May 13, 1893 – died June 23, 1988) was an American psychologist and a prominent figure in the study of personality. He was the son of a 'merchant' and a Harvard professor. Harvard University has a long history of connections with the CIA; notably, Henry Kissinger lectured there.

Murray was chosen by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the CIA, to conduct a psychoanalysis of Adolf Hitler. His analysis was utilized to shape Allied propaganda during World War II. There is his name on the OSS document as a researcher.

Additionally, Dr. Murray is perhaps most infamous for his involvement in the controversial psychological experiments conducted on Theodore John Kaczynski, known as the Unabomber. Kaczynski, who engaged in a nationwide bombing campaign against Jews associated with modern technology and wrote the manifesto noscriptd "Industrial Society and Its Future" (published in 1995), was subjected to psychological manipulation during his time at Harvard.
